The delightfully fuzzy leaves of Mullein are great to have on hand in tincture form for cold, flu, and allergy seasons.  They are traditionally used as an calming expectorant for spasmodic coughs especially when the lungs are dry/irritated, but also if the mucus is thick and the cough is unproductive.  This is because Mullein is a demulcent and moistens the tissues; it's mucilage is also what can help loosen thick/sticky mucus.
